Musical Beds

My eyes are red and bloodshot. No, I have not been smoking pot. No, I'm not getting ready for Valentine's Day. It's the lack of sleep. My baby boy is 5 months old and still sleeps like a 1 month old. I'm guessing that the exclusive breastfeeding (got over the strike) has something to do with it, but I just find that heating up a bottle in the middle of the night to be highly annoying (plus he doesn't like formula). It's so much easier to pull my bodily appendage out and go back to sleep. This leads me of course to the crime that is being committed at my house on a nightly basis. The crime I swore I would never commit.

I'm pulling a Mejia (co-sleeping)....actually, it's more like musical beds. The only thing missing is the music. Let me s'plain. At 8 or 9 my boy eats. He falls asleep. I put him in his crib. At 1am-ish he wakes up because he wants to eat. No amount of soothing will get him to go back to sleep. I take him out of his crib and feed him. If I'm still awake, I put him back, if not, we fall asleep in bed (usually the case). Around 4, he's up again to eat. If he's there with me, I feed him, if he's in the crib, I go get him and bring him back to the bed to feed him. If I'm awake after this I put him back, otherwise he stays there with me. Sometimes CMan wakes up in the middle of the night and decides that he too wants to be in the bed. He comes to my bed, R moves to CMan's bed (we don't all fit in the bed at the same time). CMan sleeps like a maniac, so then JJ has to be moved to the crib because I fear that he will get whacked in the head by CMan. It's a crazy musical beds procedure every night and it's driving me crazy. My eyes are bloodshot and I am soooo tired, but I can't figure out how to make him sleep MORE! I fear that he is getting used to my bed and I DO NOT WANT THAT! But hello, I have to sleep....I don't know what to do. And please don't say "just give him formula"...I'm sure there are other breastfed babies out there that sleep through the night. He's too young to cry it out and I don't really want to do that because then CMan is going to wake up...Ahjrgh!

Another problem I think is that he only eats for about 5 minutes on one side and then he falls asleep. I change his diaper, I burp him and still he continues to sleep. Sometimes I get him to eat on the other side too for about 1 min or two, but not always. So, of course, after 3 hours he's hungry again! This 5 minute eating deal is usually how he eats all the time though, so even during the day he eats every 3 to 4 hours when I'm with him on the weekends. He's still taking the Prevacid for the reflux, so he only throws up once in a while now.

He has started eating baby foods, but he doesn't really like them and makes yucky faces and spits it back out. Sometimes he cries hysterically and won't eat it (when he's too hungry). He did this with the baby cereal, so we skipped that altogether. Who knew this would be so hard the second time around?

Ambien...take me away.

Gone, but not forgotten.

Despite my son's rolling accomplishments, this past weekend was pretty sad and I haven't really been able to write about it. My sister's husband died on Friday night/Sat morning. He was one of CMan's Godparents, he was young, he was a great cook, a husband and a father. I can't even begin to imagine the grief that my sister and her children are going through right now. I'm sad for her and I wish I were in California so I could be with her through this rough time. I pray and hope that God will give her the strength to get through this.

Rest in peace Bashar, you will be missed.

Rolling rolling rolling

My little man rolled over on Sunday!

I'd been trying to teach him this weekend, but he would only twist his top half. On Sunday he finally flipped his leg over and the proud mama was there to catch it on video the third time he did it. I love his reaction at the end.

This falls into the Stuff I haven't blogged about and should have, but it happened so long ago, yet I still want to mention it category:

On Nov 16th, I took CMan and Jordan to the zoo for the first time ever. Yes, Chris had never been to the zoo before then. This might surprise those of you that go to the zoo like a jillion times a year.

When Chris was a baby, I always said that I would never take CMan to the zoo until he could say the names of the animals and tell me that he wanted to go to the zoo himself. Before then, I considered it a waste of time because he wouldn't really know what the heck is going on. I'm glad I waited. It was more fun for him to see the animals and name them and be able to have a conversation about them (Jordan went along for the ride). When JJ is 3 maybe we'll take them again.

I don't know, but I just can't see why one would need to go THAT often. I mean, the animals aren't going to change. It's the same old animals in the same old hot sun (we picked November so it wouldn't be hot). No need to do that more than once every couple of years..really. I think the last time I went to the zoo was before Hurricane wow, that was in 1992, so you do the math.

Anyway, he had a great time and got to ride a camel and feed the giraffes. The giraffe's long black tongue freaked him out a bit though.

The rest of the pictures can be found here.

We also went to Jungle Island a couple of weeks ago, so that was a first for all of us. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures, but my aunt did. If/when she sends them to me, I will share.

Our next goal?...the Miami Seaquarium. It's been even longer since I've been there!

Hey Look!

I'm on a website!

I won third place in a contest, so my picture will be one of five that are featured on our photographer's website. I should have blogged about it to get more votes, but I cannot begin to explain the laziness that has come over me lately.

Anyway, here it is....

Check me out!

You must hold on when riding in trams...

Hello everyone, remember me? Yes, I am guilty of not updating very often anymore. What can I say Facebook has taken over my life.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. We had a great time. Santa brought me a wii and a wii fit, woohoo! Santa is very generous and wonderful. Santa also went a little overboard with Christian's toys, but oh well, what can you do. My mom's family came up from El Salvador so we spent New Year's with them.

On January 2nd we headed up to Disney World. The weather was fabulous, but let me tell you, going to Disney with 9 people, with a toddler, a great grandma and a baby in the mix is quite special. For starters, when we got on the tram in the parking lot everyone was holding on to something...a boy, a bag, a baby, a stroller, a grandmother, a wheelchair...oops...who's holding on to the wheelchair? Well, we found out who (no one!) when the tram made a turn and the wheelchair went flying right out of the tram! Trams do not stop if you drop something so we kept going. When we reached the ticketing area the following tram brought it back to us and it was still in working condition thankfully. My uncle and cousin went to Islands of Adventure (while we were at the Magic Kingdom) and I had forgotten to give him the confirmation number so he called me that he couldn't get his tickets. I had to call Ren to check my email and text the number to me (Ren didn't go, he hates Disney). Then WE couldn't get into Disney because we had FL resident tickets and everyone who had one had to have an ID. My family did not have a FL ID, so my mom had to go to guest relations. Fortunately they decided to let us enter anyway. Then my mom had a hissy fit because the park was packed, she didn't want to wait outside with Chris and JJ while I road Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. She was in a bad mood that day and it was souring everyone else's mood. Once that passed though, we were able to enjoy the day. The weather was fabulous, 60's, cloudy. The only bad thing was that the park was PACKED, but hey at least there was no sun!

Chris loved the pirate ride and asked to go on it again, but he ended up falling asleep so that didn't happen. JJ and Chris got to go on the pirates, the jungle cruise, the haunted mansion, peter pan, and small world. How cute, his first trip to Disney...and guess which bad mother didn't take ANY pictures? Yes, believe it or not. The trip was so hectic that I never even took the camera out of my bag. I did take some pictures the next day at Universal though. I didn't take them with my camera though, so when my aunt sends me those, I will share.

The following day, we went to Universal Studios. It felt so weird for me to be there during the day time. I usually only go for Halloween Horror Nights, so the park seemed a little tame and bright for me. Chris went on the Shrek ride and actually wore the 3D glasses (an improvement since his last trip to Orlando). He also went on the Jaws ride, the Nickelodeon ride that I can't remember the name of (in the stationary seats), the Disaster ride, the ET ride and the Woody Woodpecker Roller coaster. This last one impressed me because it was quite rough, but he loved it. I'm glad, this means I may have a future roller coaster partner on my hands. We also saw the Horror Make-up Show that had parts that "might frighten young children"...that is, if they aren't Claudia's children. Scary horror movie clips on the screen? No problem, he was sad when they ended. Scary monster running around on stage? problem, didn't even flinch. JJ rode the Shrek ride (stationary seats), the Nickelodeon ride (stationary seats) and the Jaws ride. He behaved beautifully the whole trip.
