Four seconds of fame

I haven't really blogged about this yet (but I did talk about it on FB) because I was waiting for it to come out, but now that it's here.

Check out my little man in the latest Hooked on Phonics commercial. He comes out at 1:10 and again at 1:32.




We went to Orlando and Venice Beach in March and April to film this and it was a great experience. Everyone was so nice and patient. I'm so proud of him because he was really tired that day (we had gone to the beach earlier because the film crew was running late), but he was a real trooper and did what they asked him to (for the most part).


I found the video last night because Christian wanted to play his Hooked On Phonics games on the computer. I wondered if the commercial was ready, so I looked on their website and found it in their YouTube channel. Christian was pretty excited to see himself on the screen. I hope he sees it on TV though because then he'll really freak out (and he doesn't get excited over things that easily).


As far as the product goes, I think it's wonderful (and I'm not just saying that because we were in the commercial). Christian has really gotten ahead with his reading. He reads three and four letter words now and I often catch him trying to read and pronounce longer words as well. He's half way through the Kindergarten book. Because he is only four though, I don't pressure him to do the workbooks or lessons or anything. That way, it's not something that becomes a chore, but something fun that we do together. It's there on the counter in plain sight, whenever he wants to work on it, he asks me and we do so. The fact that he wants to do it almost every day though speaks volumes for the product and how great it is. I'm really glad I stumbled upon it.


Now, if only I could get Jordan in a commercial too....hmmm....that's next on my to-do list!

Contest update

So here's the update on the contest...

Christian ended up being #111. That’s not bad considering there were 3,875 kids! He was in the top 2.8%! We also found out about the contest really late, so he was in it for only like 2 weeks even though it started sometime in February. Maybe next time...

I’d like to thank those of you that voted for him and especially those that went the extra mile for us (you know who you are!). I know it's annoying to have someone asking you to vote all the time (especially since I love these types of contests), trust me, it's annoying to have to be asking for votes too. I feel like I'm bothering you all, then again, if you can't bother your friends, then who can you bother? Oh that's right, perfect strangers that come upon my blog...ha ha.

Thanks for putting up with my endless emails, texts, tweets, and facebook updates!

On a positive note, we are currently in the process of filming a Hooked on Phonics infomercial (I’ll post a link to that when it comes out) and signing him with a pretty snazzy agency, so wish us luck!

Momentary Revival

This blog is experiencing a momentary revival so I can beg, plead, grovel ask you to vote for my son on a daily basis (ok, now you're pushing it woman). Read on...

I've entered Christian in the Next Direct Model Competition. The winner gets a modeling contract and a $100,000 scholarship. Sure the modeling gig would be fun, but I'm thinking that scholarship will come in super handy.

I hate entering contests where there's like a million children entering and there are a couple of children at the very top with parents who are the presidents of companies and they make all their employees vote, so the kid ends up with a million votes and they are impossible to beat.

Here's the part where I actually think this is doable. In this contest, the TOP 50 children fly to LA to compete for the prize with photo shoots and interviews and all that. This makes it more fair and more attainable...I think.

Now the trick comes in getting into the top 50. Sorted from highest to lowest votes, we started on page 47 (25 kids per page) and Chris is now on page 12 (the goal is to get to page 1 or 2). This means we've moved up 35 pages in like a week and are now 10 pages away! Call me crazy (CRAZY!), but I think it's totally doable (with your help of course).

So, that being said...can you please help me out? Please vote every day through Facebook (if you're on there) and then log out and vote again with your emails (click on the VOTE FOR ME button under his picture). If you'd really like to help, but just don't have the time to be fiddling around with all this contest nonsense, then please send me your email address and I'll find someone to vote for you.

I'm almost at the point where I'm ready to start taking clothes off offering goodies in return for votes...come on people...help a girl out! What will it take? Hershey's kisses? real kisses? a body rub? a home cooked meal (ha ha...as if)?

Reporting for duty

I have been reprimanded by Amanda for not updating my blog. So here I am, reporting for blogging duty lest you think I ran away to El Salvador and never came back.

Since I got back last week, I've been busy playing packrat working, so my poor blog has suffered.

I'm too tired for an El Salvador recap right now, so let me fill you in on this past week's happenings...

On Saturday CMan came out in the Miami Herald newspaper. We had no idea he was going to come out, so it was quite a surprise when R opened the paper and found his son's picture there. Ha ha! And all because I submitted his picture to a gallery at this site, who knew?

On Sunday he fell off Amanda's couch and hit his forehead and lip. It was kind of scary because I had never seen a head bump get that big before and at first we didn't really know where the bleeding was coming from (his lip) so we thought he had knocked his tooth loose. Fortunately, he's doing better today. The bump has gone down, but it's an ugly black and blue color. He doesn't seem to notice or care that it's there. Thank God.

Yesterday I had an OB appt and the babe is fine. Kicking up a storm and growing like a weed, or is that the Taco Bell that's making me grow? The doc says I'm big for my dates and I told him that I kind of knew that because I felt so huge....not to mention that my mom reminds me of this all the time. Almost sixteen pounds so far; at this rate, I definitely see myself beating my 42 pound record with CMan (I'm only 5'4" and already had too much weight to begin with!).

Oh and I've got a cold again...that's 6 in case you're keeping track....I know I am.
